Welcome to the heartwarming tale of Build A Home, where a vision from 2007 has blossomed into a transformative force in the Rio Grande Valley. Beyond bricks and mortar, this is a journey of compassion, community, and the incredible power of
building not just houses, but homes. In the beginning, Build A Home set out with a simple mission—to gift deserving families a haven of safety and comfort. What emerged is now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, fueled by the compassionate efforts of the First United Methodist Church in Portland. Year after year, this project, supported by generous donors like you, raises $40,000 to construct a three-bedroom home, changing lives and creating foundations for brighter futures.
This isn't just about construction; it's about building a brighter future for families who have endured challenges.
Each recipient undergoes a meticulous screening process by ChildFund International.
The unique requirement that families must be employed and own the land reflects the ethos of partnership—investing in their journey towards stability and self-sufficiency.

The construction process itself is a labor of love, carried out in two distinct stages. The pre-building phase in Portland, Texas, takes place in late winter, while the on-site build, a collaborative effort involving over 100 compassionate volunteers,
occurs during spring break in March. Together, they breathe life into dreams, working side by side with receiving families and past recipients.
But Build A Home goes beyond providing shelter; it's an educational opportunity for the youth in the community. By actively involving young individuals in the construction process, teaching them skills, safety, and the proper use of power tools, the project becomes a platform for empowering the next generation with practical knowledge and a strong work ethic.
